BAILEY: ACT 3: Captum Scene 2

[EARLY MORNING-BAILEY’S HOUSE]

[BAILEY’S ROOM]

VAN: ............[Slowly comes to]...[Groans as he awakens]...[Stagers to sit up]...[Breathes heavily]...[Holds head with major discomfort]...Fucking bat. [Staggers to stand up]...How long have I...? [Head heavily throbs] Gyah!! [Clings right arm and left hand against the wall as he catches his breath]...[Paranoid] No...not now...not now...I have to focus on finding Bailey. Now is not the time to remember!

[The room surrounding VAN gets a little darker]

VAN: [Breathing heavily] I have to focus. I have to focus. I have to fucking focus!!

[The room surrounding VAN gets darker]

VAN: [Attempting to calm down] Focus...focus...

[The room surrounding VAN gets a little lighter]

VAN: I just...I just need to...[Head heavily throbs] AGH!!

[The room surrounding VAN becomes pitch black]

VAN: [Takes a deep breathe and slowly turns around]...The bloody...?

YOUNG GIRL’S VOICE: You will never save her, you know?

VAN: [Confused and concerned] What?! Who?!

YOUNG GIRL’S VOICE: She will die.

VAN: What the bloody hell do you mean?! Bailey isn’t going to die!

YOUNG GIRL’S VOICE: Hmmm...I seem to recall you saying that to another young lady once.

VAN: What the hell is going on?!

YOUNG GIRL’S VOICE: You care about her...don’t you?

VAN: Who the hell are you?! Where am I?!!

YOUNG GIRL’S VOICE: No...you don’t just care...you love her...don’t you?  

VAN: [Slightly alarmed]...How...How can you know that?

YOUNG GIRL’S VOICE: I know everything about you Van. I always have.

VAN: [Internally panicking] Who-...Who are you?

YOUNG GIRL’S VOICE: Why Van...did you forget my voice? The voice of the one individual who understood you way back when? The one voice who cared about you?! The one voice who loved you?!!

VAN: ...[Slightly panicked] Forgive me, but I-

[Out of nowhere, the soul of the voice appears and grabs VAN by the throat and holds him above the ground]

VAN: GYAHK...!!

YOUNG GIRL’S SOUL: [Hisses]

VAN: [Horrified]

YOUNG GIRL’S SOUL: What is wrong, Van? You look as if you’ve seen a ghost.

VAN: Au...[Mortified] Audrie?!

AUDRIE’S SOUL: Seems you do remember. [Lets go of VAN]

VAN: [Falls hard on the ground and catches his breath]

AUDRIE’S SOUL: Pathetic to see what you have become.

VAN: [Panicking] This isn’t real. I must still be out of it. This isn’t real!

AUDRIE’S SOUL: [Angry] But it is real Van! Just like before! You were too weak to do anything and everyone you loved was killed for it! It’s all your fault! It’s all your fault!!

VAN: [Mortified and panicking] N...No...I-I’m not weak anymore-I-

AUDRIE’S SOUL: [Furious] You are as weak now as you were then!! You witnessed it yourself!! She was taken by that monster! She is going to die because of you! Perish! Die!! SUFFER!!! And when she’s gone, where will you be?!!

VAN: [Panicking]

AUDRIE’S SOUL: [Calm] Oh...I know where you’ll be.

VAN: [Looks up at AUDRIE’S SOUL in confusion and anger]

AUDRIE’S SOUL: You’ll be with another broad after she’s dead, won’t you?

VAN: [Angry]

AUDRIE’S SOUL: Out with the old in with the new, right? Heh. That’s what you did with us, wasn’t it? Replace us all with her? Forgetting about us after all of these years?! Did we not matter to you?!! Did we not matter?!! [Creepy and calm]...Heh. Tell me Van...did you enjoy watching us all die?

VAN: [Pissed] Shut the bloody fuck up!!

[Void surrounding VAN and AUDRIE’S SOUL begins to crack slightly]

AUDRIE’S SOUL: [Astonished]

VAN: ......I [Feeling nothing but regret]...I never forgot any of you. I could never forget my family. I could never forget you. You were my twin sister...how could I ever forget you?

AUDRIE’S SOUL: ......

VAN: Bailey...Bailey was not someone who made me forget about all of you...she just...made me see the world the way I used to. The way I saw it before all of that...and I will not let her die because of me...nor anyone else.

AUDRIE’S SOUL: ......Heh...[Begins to laugh]...[Laughs hard]

VAN: [Slightly peeved] What the bloody hell is so funny?

AUDRIE’S SOUL: You think she’s still alive?!

VAN: [Concerned] What...?

AUDRIE’S SOUL: You are so foolish! The minute you come to she’ll be long gone!

VAN: What?!!

[Void begins to crack more]

AUDRIE’S SOUL: It’s funny how you think you believe in yourself when in reality you are just a coward trying to repent for old sins!

VAN: I have done nothing to earn this hell!! You of all people know that!!

AUDRIE’S SOUL: Oh I know you all right! I know you are nothing more than a foolish coward who uses others to keep himself safe from harm!! You...are just another cretin among this shithole we call the world.

VAN: I-!! [Calms down slightly] Wait...

AUDRIE’S SOUL: [Begins to laugh]

[Void begins to crack more]

VAN: [Begins to realize]...You...you are not my sister...

AUDRIE’S SOUL: [Immediately silent]

VAN: You are nothing like she was. Who the bloody fuck are you?

AUDRIE’S SOUL: You are correct. I am not your sister, but something...far worse.

VAN: Who-What are you?

AUDRIE’S SOUL: ...I...

[Void cracks a lot more]

AUDRIE’S SOUL: Am your guilt.

[Void shatters]

[REAL WORLD]

VAN: [Abruptly awakens in a panic]...[Calms himself down a little]...[Slightly calmer]...Bailey! [Looks at the window where VICTORIA escaped]...I will not be too late this time.
